Evansville owners of more than one rental residence have a new Evansville Ordinance to comply with.
To deal with the problem of absentee and unidentifiable landlords, the City of Evansville adopted an Ordinance requiring all landlords (except owners of only one rental unit) to register with the City Controller. The initial registration must be by May 31, 2013, and future registrations will need to be made each year thereafter by November 30 of that year. Any landlord who has not previously registered, though, who acquires a Second rental unit (and thereby first becomes subject to the Ordinance’s requirements) must register within 20 days after acquisition of that Second unit.
The registration information will include the residence of each rental building and how many units are contained in that building, as well as identifying and contact information for each owner and identification and contact information of the property agent, manager, or other person or entity who is in charge of the management or supervision of the rental building.
The Ordinance carries a $100 per day penalty for failure to register, so Evansville landlords need to take this Ordinance seriously.
