Sounds pretty great. What kind of country would America be without its freedom? To exercise that freedom, you should buy this product. This is an age-old tactic used to sell items ranging from automobiles all the way to guacamole. And it certainly is not the first time that this tactic has been used to sell products like electronic cigarettes. Tobacco companies have been encouraging people to exercise their purchasing freedom for decades, using slogans like American Tobacco Company’s now-infamous “torches of freedom” of the late 1920s or Virginia Slims’ 1968 “You’ve come a long way, Baby.” Ads promoting cigarettes appeared on television frequently in the 1950s and ’60s with catchy jingles, and many cigarette companies funded their own programs, such as The Camel News Caravan funded by Camel on NBC.
